Company History

How We Started

The year was 1948, Ernst Skalla, a German immigrant chemist, after having served five years in the US Armed Forces during World War II, founded S & S Company of Ga, Inc. (now SASCO Chemical Group, LLC) , in Albany, Georgia, as a small three-person operation. Today, we produce over twelve hundred products and distributes them worldwide.



Our History

Ernst Skalla
1948
S & S Company was founded by Ernst Skalla (a German Immigrant Chemist), after serving five years in the armed forces during World War II.
1972
Ernst Skalla passed away.
Carolyn Skalla and Sons
1972
Carolyn Skalla and her sons, Randy and Lan Skalla, take over the operation of S & S Company of Ga, Inc.
1972
S & S Company begins manufacturing industrial cleaners and cleaning products for the food industry.
Formalex
1988
S & S Company develops a line of biomedical products which includes Formalex®, PolyForm-F and Fan Pad G.L.
Pangalark
1989
S & S Company signs Distributor Agreement with Pangalark, LTD in Australia.
1990
S & S Company launches its Rubber Product Line under its flagship Polycoat Series.
1990
S & S Company signs Distributor Agreement with American Bio Safety in Rocklin, California.
Jones Scientific
1991
S & S Company signs Distributor Agreement with Jones Scientific in Ontario, Canada.
1994
S & S Company is highlighted in Business Week, July 25th issue. "A Green Industrial Policy Takes Root" - Formaldehyde cleanup made easy and environmentally friendly with S & S Company's Formalex®.
1995
S & S Company signs Distributor Agreement for biomedical chemicals with FALMA in Japan.
Taking flight on Columbia
1998
S & S Company joins forces with NASA as Fan Pad G.L. takes flight on the shuttle Columbia to be used in the on-board dissection lab.
1999
Georgia Chamber of Commerce names S & S Company as one of five finalists in the Small Business of the Year Award.
GEDA Award
2001
GEDA Existing Industry Awards names S & S Company the winner of the Small Manufacturer of the Year Award.
ISO Certified
2003
S & S Company becomes ISO 9001:2000 Certified.
SASCO Chemical
2006
In line with the company logo, S & S Company officially changes their name to SASCO Chemical Group, Inc.
Boys and Girls Club Albany
2006
The Albany, Georgia Chapter of the Boys and Girls Club dedicated their Education Center on Jefferson Street in honor of Carolyn Skalla-LaSchober and Ernst Skalla.
ISO Re-certified
2008
SASCO is re-certified to ISO 9001:2008 standards.

Third Generation steps in.

SASCO signs Distributor Agreement with Sanyo Corporation in Japan.
SASCO Technology Center
2010
SASCO sponsors the SASCO Technology Center at the Jane Willson Boys and Girls Club Center in Albany, Georgia.
2010
SASCO signs Distributor Agreement with Ed Juline in Mexico.
2011
SASCO unveils new Technical Center in Macon, GA as the hub for Research & Development, Rubber Lab and Pilot Plant.
Office and Production Addition
2011
SASCO begins construction on production and office addition to the Albany Plant.

SASCO signs Distributor Agreement with Quelaris in South America.

SASCO signs Distributor Agreement with Berceo in Spain.
Hubron Specialty
2012
SASCO appoints Hubron Specialty as their representative in the United Kingdom.
2012
SASCO receives National Award of Merit from the Boys & Girls Clubs of America
2012
The Albany-Dougherty Economic Development Commission presented SASCO the Global Commerce Award.
2012
SASCO was presented the Medium Sized Business Award from the Albany Area Black Expo.
2012
SASCO's Chief Operating Officer, Rusty Skalla, was honored by Deerfield Windsor School with the inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award for under 40.
2013
SASCO opens our new global sales office in Atlanta, GA.
2014
SASCO received the Presidential Award for Exports.
Presidential Award

SASCO's President, Marc Skalla, was appointed to the Executive Committee and as the Southeast Regional Vice Chair of the National Association of Manufacturers.
2015
Governor Nathan Deal recognized SASCO with the Globe Award for entering into a new international market.
2015
SASCO's President, Marc Skalla, was nominated to the Chair position of Meals on Wheels Atlanta.
